Rear bumper help
« on: March 03, 2021, 10:40:42 am »
Hi all, would like to change the rear bumper on my car to the British version.

What's the cheapest way of doing this, candy white from eBay/breakers? Does the standard mk5 golf bumper fit or does it have to be Gti? Also is the colour match likely to be good in white? Thanks

Buy a used euro GTI bumper. Get it painted to match the car. Sell the one you have...

Hi mate, problem i have is the cost of getting it painted. Been quoted £300 just for the black part doing (colour coding) so imagine cost will be much higher to paint the whole lot. Ideal would be to find a euro candy white but they seem very hard to come by, none on ebay at the moment.

They want £300 just to paint the black trim on the rear bumper? That's insane... take it elsewhere.

Again buying a euro bumper will be best option and painting it. Waiting for a car to be broken in that colour and hope its in decent condition might be tough.

Yes this was the quote from 3 different places. Down to the textured plastic needed prepping. Suppose i could attempt this myself but not sure how much it would bring down the price. Anyone colour coded theirs and what did you pay?

The top part of the bumper is the same on all Golfs so just get the correct shade of white, the bottom half is GTI specific.

Are you wanting a euro bumper for the licence plate? If so... if your splitting it the shape is different for the licence plate.

Interesting. I think if it was colour coded I may have a different view, think the front looks so much better than the back of the mk5 gti in both euro and jap spec.

Finding any white gti bumpers would be hard enough IMO let alone a edition 30 one, white seems be the rarest colour for gti’s
